Oral Health

Your cat’s oral health is important and needs to be kept up. Your cat can develop diseases such as the common, being periodontal disease. Dental disease is the biggest problem for cats.

You can take your cat in to the vet for a teeth cleaning, I know this can be spendy but if it needs to be done than you really shouldn’t put it off. It could save your cats life. Preventative treatment is always encouraged as well. Giving them a daily chew that helps with plaque and tartar on their teeth or maybe your cat will let you brush their teeth. Whatever works for you and your cat is what you should do.

Learning how to examine your cats teeth and gums is a great way to be aware of their oral health and this way you can spot when something doesn’t look right and take action right away. You can talk to your vet or do some research on the best way to clean your cats teeth at home, we all know how much our cats hate going to the vet. Anesthesia can also be dangerous especially with older cats so the less they go under the better.

Another thing to speak with your vet about is a dental/insurance plan for your cats. This can make things less expensive for you and can save you a lot of money in the future or per visit.

Can Cats Eat Avocados?

Cats and Avocados

There are quite a few things that your cat can’t eat and avocados are one of them.  Avocados have something in them called Persin.  Persin is a fungicidal toxin that can be very harmful to any kind of animal.  Some avocados have more Persin in them than others. If your cats eat the pit, skin or leafs of the avocado, it can cause vomiting and diarrhea.  Other affects are unknown so it’s a good idea to keep your cats away from them.

Keeping Your Cat’s Skin Healthy

Healthy Cat Skin

The first sign of unhealthy and irritable skin on your cat is itchy, flaky skin.  It needs to be taken care of as soon as you notice it.  It’s not normal for cats to have skin irritation so they may have some kind of allergy that can cause further problems if ignored.  Having an outside cat or change in diet can be a factor.

If you bath your cat, you must use cat specific shampoos.  If you use dog or human shampoo you may be the one causing the problem.  You can use a cat conditioner to care for your cat after shampooing to smooth and soothe the skin as well.
Omega oil is a great way to keep your cats coat and skin healthy.  You can purchase this in liquid form so there won’t be a fuss when it comes time to take it.

Inside cats can get fleas just as easy as outside cats so it’s important to pay close attention to their environment.  You can check their bed or wherever they spend time in the house to see if there is a flea problem that you were not aware of.  That would call for some kind of flea bomb or other flea treatment.  You need to take action before they take over your home and your cat.

Just remember to pay attention to your cat closely so you can recognize any discomfort they may be experiencing or any changes physically so you can take them to the vet or take care of it yourself.
